Professor Luke Glanville from our ANU Coral Bell School of Asia Pacific Affairs will discuss the dissonance of 'humane domination' in refugee exclusion policies of Western States and analyse case studies from the historical oppression of Indigenous peoples to contemporary refugee experiences. The lecture will also feature live music performances by Wayne Kelly on piano and James Luke on double bass and discover how marginalised communities express and challenge narratives through music. Is the future of Indonesian language studies at risk? 🇮🇩 Indonesian Ambassador to Australia, His Excellency Dr Siswo Pramono, voiced concerns regarding the shortage of teachers and funding throughout Australia while delivering a short speech at the ANU 2024 Tony and Yohanni Johns Lecture last week. He emphasised the crucial role played by key stakeholders such as the College and the ANU Indonesian Institute in promoting Indonesian language and culture. "Events like these will reignite our determination to promote Indonesian language and culture across Australia" - Ambassador Siswo Pramono. 🇮🇩 The lecture, which featured acclaimed journalist and author Leila Salikha Chudori, was attended by College Dean, Professor Helen Sullivan, and ANU Indonesia Institute Director, Dr Eve Warburton, who were proud to discuss the leading work and engagement with Indonesia being conducted by the ANU College of Asia and the Pacific.
